About
About 6dB.ai
We rent and run real-time De-Feedback processing for churches, meeting rooms and live events across Dallas-Fort Worth. Every system is inserted into your existing rig, tuned in your building, and demonstrated with a level-matched A and B so the improvement is something you heard rather than something you were told.
Who we are
We came to this from running live sound
6dB.ai is run by Dallas Event Audio, which has been doing live sound across the Metroplex since 2001: concerts, corporate meetings, weddings and worship services. That background is the reason this exists in the form it does.
We kept running into the same ceiling in the same kinds of rooms. A meeting space with a hard ceiling and speakers next to the podium. A sanctuary with four open microphones and a volunteer at the desk. In every one of them the honest answer was that the system could not go louder without ringing, and the available fixes cost clarity.
So the product is a rental with an engineer attached. We come out, we patch in, we tune it for your room, and you hear it in the building you are going to use it in.
How we work
Four things we hold to
Measure it in your room
A demonstration anywhere other than your building is a demonstration of that other building. We bring the system to you and we test it with your microphones, your speakers and your operator.
Match the bypass to unity
An unmatched bypass makes anything sound like an improvement, because louder always wins. We set the two paths to the same level before we ask anyone to compare them.
Say when it is the wrong fix
Sometimes the ringing is a microphone sitting in a monitor's pattern, or a speaker pointed at a hard back wall. When moving something would help more than processing, we will tell you that and you will not have spent anything.
Leave your system as we found it
The processor is inserted at line level and removed the same way. If you decide against it, your rig is the way it was.
The technology
What we are running
The processing runs as a VST plugin inside the De-Feedback VST host built by Alpha Labs, on a SNUC option 2 mini PC, with a Focusrite Scarlett interface handling the analog connections in either a two or four channel configuration. It is a small box that sits on top of a rack.
That combination was chosen for latency and for reliability rather than for specification. Because Alpha Labs specify the mini PC the host runs on, the buffer can sit at 16 samples instead of wherever a given machine happens to be stable, and the whole path adds under 2 milliseconds. That keeps performers comfortable on stage and keeps a broadcast feed in sync. The technology page covers what the processing does, and the setup guide covers every setting on the machine.
We publish the setup guide in full because the people who rent this from us are audio directors and volunteer tech leads who would rather read the configuration themselves than call somebody. If you would rather call, the number is on every page.
Questions
About working with us
Who is behind 6dB.ai?
6dB.ai is operated by Dallas Event Audio, a live production company working across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex since 2001. The same people who run concerts, corporate events and worship services are the ones who tune this system on site.
Is this a software product or a service?
Both, and the service is the part we lead with. The processing runs on a small dedicated machine you can rent, and it comes with somebody who patches it into your room and tunes it for your building. We do not ship a license and wish you luck.
Do you sell the system outright?
Talk to us about what you need. Most churches start with a demo, then a rental across a season to see how it behaves week to week. Tell us your situation and we will give you a straight answer about which arrangement fits.
What areas do you serve?
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, roughly a 40 mile radius from Hurst. That covers Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Southlake, Frisco, Plano, Irving, Denton and the towns around them.
Start with a demo
It costs nothing, it takes about ninety minutes, and you keep the measurement whichever way you decide.
